No. 1 Women’s Tennis claims six wins on day one at Miami Invitational

Rivkin and Zein each post victories in both doubles and singles play on Friday.
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The No. 1 University of Texas Women's Tennis team earned a total of six victories on Friday during the opening day of competition at the Miami Invitational at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Graduate Marlee Zein and freshman Nicole Rivkin each posted wins in singles and doubles play during Friday's action to pace the Longhorns.
During the three-day event, the Longhorns are competing in singles and doubles in an individual round-robin format against No. 3 NC State, host No. 11 Miami (Fla.) and No. 20 Vanderbilt.
In Friday's doubles action against Miami, the Longhorns posted a perfect 4-0 record. The tandem of freshman Nicole Khirin and junior Charlotte Chavatipon claimed a 6-4 win over Daevenia Achong and Maya Tahan, while the duo of Rivkin and junior Taisiya Pachkaleva earned a 6-4 victory against Alexa Noel and Audrey Boch-Collins. Sophomore Sabina Zeynalova and Zein tallied a 6-0 win over Isabella Pfennig and Mia Mack, and junior Malaika Rapolu and sophomore Grace Thomas added a 6-0 victory against Tatyana Nikolenko and Brooke Dugarte.
In afternoon singles play against NC State, No. 87 Zein claimed a 7-5, 6-3 win over Gina Dittman. Rivkin earned an impressive 6-0, 6-0 victory against Chloe Henderson.
The Longhorns will continue play on Saturday, Jan. 14 with singles against Vanderbilt. Singles play will not begin before 10:30 a.m. Central (11:30 a.m. Eastern). Texas will then compete in doubles against NC State beginning at approximately 12 p.m. Central (1 p.m. Eastern).
Texas concludes play at the Miami Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 15 with doubles against Vanderbilt. Doubles play is set to start at 8 a.m. Central (9 a.m. Eastern). UT will then compete in singles against Miami beginning at approximately 9:15 a.m. Central (10:15 a.m. Eastern).
