No. 1 Women’s Tennis posts eight victories on day two at Miami Invitational

Chavatipon, Rapolu and Zein claim wins in both singles and doubles play on Saturday.
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The No. 1 University of Texas Women's Tennis team earned a total of eight wins on Saturday during the second day of competition at the Miami Invitational at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Graduate Marlee Zein and juniors Charlotte Chavatipon and Malaika Rapolu all posted victories in singles and doubles play during Saturday's action to lead the Longhorns.
During the three-day event, Texas is competing in singles and doubles in an individual round-robin format against No. 3 NC State, host No. 11 Miami (Fla.) and No. 20 Vanderbilt.
The Longhorns captured four of six singles matches during action on Saturday morning against Vanderbilt. Chavatipon claimed a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Holly Staff, while junior Taisiya Pachkaleva posted a 6-2, 6-0 win over Dasha Kourkina. No. 87 Zein tallied a 7-5, 6-1 victory against Amy Stevens, and No. 85 Rapolu rallied for a 0-6, 6-1, 6-0 win over Marcella Cruz.
UT also registered an additional pair of singles victories in individual matches against Miami. Sophomore Grace Thomas recorded a 6-2, 6-1 win against Tatyana Nikolenko, and freshman Susanna Brass added a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Brooke Dugarte.
Texas added two doubles wins in three matches during the afternoon session against NC State. The tandem of Zein and Rapolu posted an impressive 6-4 victory against the No. 60-ranked duo of Sophie Abrams and Abigail Rencheli. Chavatipon and sophomore Grace Thomas added a 7-6 (7-1) win over the pair of Gina Dittmann and Anna Zyryanova. The duo of sophomore Sabina Zeynalova and freshman Nicole Rivkin dropped a hard-fought 7-5 decision to the No. 8-ranked pair of Amelia Rajecki and Nell Miller.
Texas concludes play at the Miami Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 15 with doubles against Vanderbilt. Doubles play is set to start at 8 a.m. Central (9 a.m. Eastern). UT will then compete in singles against Miami beginning at approximately 9:15 a.m. Central (10:15 a.m. Eastern).
