No. 1 Women’s Tennis claims eight wins on final day at Miami Invitational

Pachkaleva, Rivkin and Thomas post victories in both singles and doubles play on Sunday.
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The No. 1 University of Texas Women's Tennis team earned a total of eight wins on Sunday during the final day of competition at the Miami Invitational at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Junior Taisiya Pachkaleva, freshman Nicole Rivkin and sophomore Grace Thomas all posted victories in singles and doubles play during Sunday's action to pace the Longhorns.
During the three-day event, Texas competed in singles and doubles in an individual round-robin format against No. 3 NC State, host No. 11 Miami (Fla.) and No. 20 Vanderbilt. Graduate Marlee Zein posted a perfect 5-0 record at the Miami Invitational, including a 3-0 mark in singles play and a 2-0 slate in doubles.
The Longhorns won two of three doubles matches during action on Sunday morning against Vanderbilt. The duo of Rivkin and Pachkaleva earned a 6-4 victory against Anna Ross and Holly Staff. Sophomore Grace Thomas and freshman Susanna Brass added a 6-4 win over the tandem of Anessa Lee and Amy Stevens.
The Longhorns captured six of eight singles matches during action on Sunday against Miami. Junior No. 85 Malaika Rapolu earned an impressive 6-1, 6-2 victory over No. 60 Daevenia Achong, and No. 87 Zein registered a 6-1, 6-4 win against No. 123 Isabella Pfennig. Pachkaleva posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Audrey Boch-Collins, and sophomore Sabina Zeynalova recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win against Mia Mack. Rivkin added a hard-fought 7-6 (9-7), 3-6, 6-3 victory over Maya Tahan, and Thomas tallied a 6-2, 6-0 win against Brooke Dugarte.
Texas returns to action when it opens the 2023 dual-match season with three home matches in a three-day span next weekend. The Longhorns host North Texas on Friday, Jan. 20 (12 p.m. CT), SMU on Saturday, Jan. 21 (12 p.m. CT) and Tulane on Sunday, Jan. 22 (11 a.m. CT). All three matches will be played at the Texas Tennis Center.
