No. 1 Women’s Tennis sweeps North Texas, 4-0

The Longhorns win their 2023 dual-match season opener.
AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 1 University of Texas Women's Tennis team (1-0) opened its 2023 dual-match season with a 4-0 sweep against North Texas (2-1) on Friday afternoon at the Texas Tennis Center. Junior Taisiya Pachkaleva paced the Longhorns with victories in both doubles and singles action.
Texas jumped out to a 1-0 advantage by earning the doubles point. The tandem of Pachkaleva and freshman Nicole Rivkin raced out to a 4-1 lead and closed out a 6-2 victory on court 2 against Gloria Alogo and Olivia Malm. The pair of junior Malaika Rapolu and sophomore Grace Thomas rallied from a 5-3 deficit to win four-straight games and post a 7-5 win on court 3 over Olivia Halvorsen and Kexuan Zhou to clinch the doubles point.
In singles action, Pachkaleva won her first four games and cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 victory on court 4 over Halvorsen. Junior Charlotte Chavatipon followed with a dominant 6-0, 6-3 win on court 1 against Jasmine Adams. Sophomore Sabina Zeynalova finished off the sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 victory on court 3 over Alogo.
The remaining singles matches featuring No. 85 Rapolu on court 2, Rivkin on court 5 and Thomas on court 6 were halted following the completion of Zeynalova's win.
Texas returns to action when it hosts SMU on Saturday, Jan. 21. First serve is set for 12 p.m. Central at the Texas Tennis Center.
