Chavatipon named Big 12 Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

Junior Charlotte Chavatipon posted a 5-0 individual record to lead the Longhorns to three home wins.
AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas junior Charlotte Chavatipon has been named the Big 12 Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. Chavatipon earned the first weekly conference honor of her career.
Chavatipon paced the No. 1 Longhorns to three dual-match victories in a three-day span (Friday-Sunday) to open the 2023 season. She posted a perfect 5-0 individual record, including a 3-0 mark in singles and a 2-0 record in doubles play, in matches against North Texas (Jan. 20), SMU (Jan. 21) and Tulane (Jan. 22).
Chavatipon played at the No. 1 line in all three singles matches and won all three in straight sets, surrendering just 13 games in six sets played. Her singles action was highlighted by a 6-4, 6-2 victory against No. 113-ranked Hadley Doyle of SMU on Saturday.
On the doubles front, Chavatipon teamed with sophomore Sabina Zeynalova at the No. 1 line and earned a 2-0 record. The duo's weekend was highlighted by a dominant 6-1 victory against SMU's No. 32-ranked tandem of Jackie Nylander and Taylor Johnson on Saturday.
No. 1 Texas (3-0) returns to action when it serves as a regional host site for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Texas Tennis Center. The Longhorns will face Fresno State at 11 a.m. CT on Friday, Jan. 27. Texas will then meet either Baylor or Loyola Marymount at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday, Jan. 28.
