RV Women’s Basketball’s earns 78-58 win over No. 14/12 Oklahoma

Defense holds Oklahoma to 22 second-half points and forces 24 turnovers in the victory.
AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas defense held Oklahoma to over 29 points below their season scoring average as the Longhorns powered to a 78-58 victory over the Sooners on Wednesday at Moody Center.
Four Texas players scored in double-figures led by 19 points from DeYona Gaston. Taylor Jones scored 16 points, Shaylee Gonzales scored 12 points and added a season-high seven assists, six rebounds and four steals and Rori Harmon scored 10 points and added six assists and five rebounds.
Texas (15-6, 6-2) started the game with a 12-2 run, but Oklahoma responded and tied the game 20-20 at the end of the first quarter. The second period remained close and the Longhorns took a 40-36 lead into the halftime break.
In the third quarter Texas held Oklahoma to 1-of-17 shooting from the field and forced eight Sooner turnovers. Texas pounded the ball inside in the third period with a 14-0 advantage in points in the paint.
Up next the Longhorns will host Oklahoma State on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 7:00 p.m. CT at Moody Center.

• The Longhorns made their first eight shots in the game.
• Texas' defensive in third quarter held Oklahoma to six points. It is the 15th time this season the Longhorns have held an opponent to less than ten points in a quarter.
• Texas improves to 14-0 on the season when they hold an opponent to 59 points or less.
• Oklahoma came into the game averaging 87.3 points per game and Texas kept them to a season low of just 58 points. Their previous season low was 69 points.
• The Longhorns went on a 17-2 run to end the third quarter.
• Shaylee Gonzales' seven dimes tonight marks a season-high in assist for her.
• Rori Harmon balanced the stat sheet with ten points, six assists, and five rebounds.
• Taylor Jones scored 16 points on an efficient 7-of-11 from the floor.
• DeYona Gaston scored 15 of her 19 points in the first half.
• Texas tallied 18 assists in the game.
• Texas never trailed in the game and had the lead for 38 minutes and 12 seconds.
• The Longhorns flipped the Sooner's assist-to-turnover ratio by forcing them to 24 turnovers and only allowing 13 assists. Prior to the game, the Sooners were ranked second in the nation in assists.
