Women’s Basketball’s Booker named SEC Preseason Player of the Year by media

Texas picked No. 2 in SEC media poll, Booker and Harmon earn preseason All-SEC honors from media.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Two-time First Team All-American and 2025 SEC Player of the Year Madison Booker has been selected the SEC Preseason Player of the Year by the media the conference announced on Monday.
In the preseason SEC media poll Texas is picked to finish second behind South Carolina. In addition to player of the year honors Booker earned a spot on the preseason All-SEC First Team and Rori Harmon was selected to the preseason All-SEC Second Team.
Booker had a stellar sophomore season at Texas as she earned First Team All-America honors from the Associated Press and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. She was the SEC Player of the Year and for the second time earned the Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year Award. Booker was a finalist for the Wade Trophy and Wooden Award, recognitions for the national player of the year. Booker averaged 16.3 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game while shooting 46.4 percent from the field, 40.3 percent from 3-point range and 82.3 percent from the free-throw line.
Rori Harmon became the first player in Texas women's basketball history to reach 1,200 points and 700 assists and earned All-America honorable mention honors from the AP and Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Harmon was a finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year award and a semifinalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year award. Harmon ranked second all-time at Texas in career assists with 731 and comes into the season 46 assists away from setting the program record. Harmon is also in the top-10 in Texas women's basketball history in career steals with 279.
The Longhorns are coming off a season in which they won 35 game to set a program record for wins in the NCAA Era. The team advanced to the Final Four for the first time in 22 years and earned a SEC regular season championship in their first season in the conference.
The Longhorns will be represented at SEC media day on Tuesday by head coach Vic Schaefer, Booker, Harmon and Kyla Oldacre.
