No. 1 Women’s Tennis sweeps Fresno State, 4-0

The Longhorns will host Baylor on Saturday (2 p.m. CT) in the ITA Kickoff Weekend regional championship.
AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 1 University of Texas Women's Tennis team (4-0) claimed a 4-0 sweep against Fresno State (1-1) on Friday afternoon at the Texas Tennis Center. Junior Charlotte Chavatipon posted individual wins in both singles and doubles action on Friday.
With the victory, the Longhorns advance to host Baylor on Saturday (2 p.m. CT) in the ITA Kickoff Weekend regional championship match. The Bears posted a 4-1 victory against Loyola-Marymount on Friday afternoon. The winners of each regional site advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships on Feb. 10-13 in Seattle, Wash.
Texas earned the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. The tandem of Chavatipon and sophomore Sabina Zeynalova posted a 6-1 victory on court 1 over Pang Jittakoat and Meshkatolzahra Safi. Chavatipon and Zeynalova raced out to a 4-0 lead before closing out the 6-1 win. The duo of junior Taisiya Pachkaleva and freshman Nicole Rivkin quickly followed with a 6-1 win on court 2 against Matilde Magrini and Mariya Vyshkina to clinch the doubles point. Pachkaleva and Rivkin won the opening five games of the set en route to the victory.
In singles play, junior No. 85 Malaika Rapolu registered a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win on court 4 over Cristina Flaquer. Tied at 1-1 in the opening set, Rapolu rattled off 11-straight games to finish her match. Chavatipon recorded a 6-0, 6-3 victory on court 2 against Safi to extend UT's advantage to 3-0. Chavatipon won the first 10 games in the contest en route to improving to 4-0 this spring in dual-match singles play.
Graduate No. 87 Marlee Zein clinched the overall dual-match sweep with a 6-0, 6-3 win on court 5 over Carolina Piferi. After a first-set shutout, Zein rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the second set to win five of the next six games and close out her first dual-match singles victory as a Longhorn.
The remaining singles matches featuring freshman Nicole Khirin (court 1), Zeynalova (court 3) and Rivkin (court 6) were stopped after Zein finished her match.
