Men’s Tennis signs international standout Legout

A native of Paris, France, who has been one of the top juniors players in the world, Timo Legout will join the Longhorns’ roster in the spring.
Austin – University of Texas Men's Tennis has signed international standout Timo Legout to an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA), head coach Bruce Berque announced Wednesday. Legout will enroll and join the program this January.
"Our entire team is excited that Timo has decided to join us at Texas," Berque said. "He connected very well with everyone on his visit, and there's no doubt in my mind that he will be a perfect fit with our team culture. Timo has demonstrated through his results on both the junior and the ITF pro circuits that he has the level to be a major impact player for our team, and I am confident he will be a difference maker for our program."
"I enjoy everything about the program at Texas," Legout said. "From the coaches to my future teammates to the city and the university, it had everything I was looking for. The team has an incredible spirit and culture that was something I wanted to be a part of, and I can't wait get there and get started."
A native of Paris, France, Legout has been rated as high as No. 12 in the ITF World Junior Rankings and has been ranked by the ATP as high as No. 406 in singles and No. 647 in doubles. He has a current Universal Tennis Rating of 13.87.
Legout has won two ITF singles titles in his career, including the M25 Montauban in France in 2022, and the M15 Sibenik in Croatia in 2021. He has also had runner-up finishes in four tournaments in 2023 at the M25 Koksijde in Belgium, the M25 Santa Margherita di Pula in Italy, the M25 Faro in Portugal, and the M15 Grenoble in France. Additionally, he made the singles final of the M15 Sharm ElSheikh in Egypt in 2022 and the doubles final of the M15 Monastir in Tunisia that year.
As a junior, he reached the singles semifinals of the Australian Open Junior Championships in 2020, falling in three sets to eventual champion No. 1 Harold Mayot, who has a career high ranking of 154 by the ATP. He also reached the singles final of six other juniors tournaments.
Legout's father, Christophe, has been one of France's most prominent table tennis players, competing in three Olympics in 1996, 2000 and 2008, along with being a multi-time French champion in both singles and doubles and winning 10 medals on the ITTF Pro Tour.
