ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — Sophomore Texas women's golfer Cindy Hsu captured the individual title at the 2023 World Amateur Team Championships Saturday at the National Course at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club.
Hsu carded rounds of 72-68-66-69=275 (-13) for a two-shot victory in the tournament.
"We watched Cindy win the junior World Championships when we recruited her and now she's added a World Amateur title," Texas head coach Ryan Murphy said. "Simply incredible. I am just so proud of Cindy and the work that she puts into her game. Cindy has a great mentor in Candie Kung and I'm not sure that friendship can be overstated. They've done great work together in an effort to elevate Cindy's game further and we are watching the fruits of that labor now. I'm just really proud of Cindy. She deserves this victory!"
Hsu came up clutch when it mattered the most as she finished with birdies on her final two holes in her third round and final round. In total Hsu carded six birdies on holes 17 and 18 over her four rounds. Hsu helped Chinese Taipei to a second-place team finish in the event.
Hsu, a 2023 All-Big 12 selection, highlighted her freshman season at Texas with a T10 finish at the NCAA Championship to become only the second freshman in UT history since 2010 to finish top-10 at the NCAA Championship.
Lauren Kim, the individual medalist at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup earlier this fall finished T8 at the World Amateur Team Championships. Kim carded rounds of 69-72-68-71=280 (-8).
Selina Liao finished T51 in the tournament with rounds of 72-72-69-79=292 (+4).
