The Longhorns earned a pair of top-65 singles wins in the qualifying round of 64 on Tuesday in Cary, N.C.
Cary, N.C. – Texas Women's Tennis' closed play at the ITA All-American Championships with a pair of top-65 singles wins in the qualifying round of 64 before falling in the following round of 32 matches on Tuesday in Cary, N.C.
Graduate No. 18 Tanya Sasnouskaya first topped No. 60 Mae Canete of Missouri, 7-6 (2), 6-0, in the round of 64, and then was downed by 9 seed No. 32 Florencia Urrutia of Oklahoma, 6-1, 6-4. Malaika Rapolu, who made a run through prequalifying, came up just short of reaching the main draw after defeating No. 61 Anastasiia Lopata of Georgia, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, in the round of 64, but fell in her second match against 3 seed No. 25 Sarah Hamner of South Carolina, 6-4, 6-3.
In doubles, Rapolu and sophomore Vivian Ovrootsky were edged by 4 seed Brooke Killingsworth and Marcella Cruz of Wake Forest, 8-6.
The Longhorns will next play in a pair of futures events before taking part in the ITA Texas Regionals starting on October 12.
