Aaliyah Moore returns from ACL injury with 13 points for the Longhorns.
ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands — The Texas women's basketball team sprinted out to a 35-2 lead after the first quarter and captured a 101-39 victory over High Point in their second game of the Paradise Jam on Friday.
Shaylee Gonzales led six players who scored in double figures with 15 points and added five steals. Aaliyah Moore scored 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting and Khadija Faye added 10 points and eight rebounds. Amina Muhammad (12), Madison Booker (11) and Taylor Jones (10) all scored in double figures for the Longhorns.
Texas (6-0) forced 27 turnovers and recorded 17 steals on the night. Rori Harmon moved into seventh place on the Longhorns all-time list for career assists and now has 453 for her career.
Up next the Longhorns will play South Florida the the tournament championship on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. CT.
Postgame notes
• Aaliyah Moore returned to action tonight 348 days after she tore her ACL last season. Moore entered the game to start the second quarter and scored six straight points for Texas.
• The Longhorn scored the first 32 points of the game and didn't allow High Point to score until the 10 second mark of the opening quarter. Texas led 35-2 at the end of the first quarter.
• Rori Harmon moved in seventh place on the Texas all-time list for career assists. Harmon now has 453.
• Shaylee Gonzales scored in double figures for the fourth consecutive game with her 15 points.
• Texas had six players score in double figures and all 12 players that saw the court scored for the Longhorns.
• The Longhorns shot 38-of-62 (61.3 percent) from the field.
• Texas came into the game ranked fourth in the country in turnovers forced per game and forced High Point into 27 turnovers on the night. The Longhorns held a 38-6 advantage in points off turnovers. Of the 27 turnovers forced, the Longhorns recorded 17 steals.
• Texas held a 23-4 edge in second chance points and for the season the Longhorns have outscored opponents in second chance points 133-25. The Longhorns grabbed 15 offensive rebounds vs. High Point.
• Texas held High Point to single digits scoring for two of the four quarters. For the season the Longhorns have held their opponents to single digits in a quarter nine times.
