No. 13/14 Women's Basketball tops Southern 80-35 in season opener

Senior Taylor Jones scored 19 points and added 12 rebounds in Wednesday's season opener.
AUSTIN, Texas - No. 13/14 Texas (1-0) opened the season with an 80-35 victory against Southern on Wednesday at Moody Center.
The Longhorns never trailed during the game. Texas used a 14-3 run approaching the end of the first quarter and had eight points in 24 seconds by forcing Southern to three consecutive turnovers.
Sophomore forward Amina Muhammed recorded her first career double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Taylor Jones posted a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Rori Harmon stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, nine assists, seven rebounds and four steals.
The Longhorns had a 13-0 run over 4:16 in the 2nd quarter. Senior forward Taylor Jones had seven points in a row to end the half. The Longhorns limited the Jaguars to 15 points at the end of the first half. The Longhorns did not allow any field goals in the last four minutes and 43 seconds in the third quarter.
Up next, the Longhorns will play against Liberty University at the Moody Center on Sunday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m. The game will be televised on Longhorn Network.

• The Longhorns are now 38-12 all-time in season openers and are 46-4 in home openers having won their last 11 home openers.
• Texas remains undefeated against Southern University with a perfect 8-0 record
• The Longhorns held their opponents to single-digit points in a quarter 26 times last season, and they did so successfully in three of the four quarters tonight.
• The Longhorns forced 22 turnovers, allowing them to win in the points off turnover category 30-3.
• Texas limited Southern to 0 second chance points and only gave up five offensive rebounds.

• The defense of Texas limited the Jaguars to 29.2 percent (14-48) from the floor and 16.7 percent (2-12) from beyond the arc.
• Sophomore Amina Muhammed recorded her first career double-double by the 5:16 mark of the second quarter and finished with a career-tying 14 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. She led the team with a positive 43 box plus/minus score.
• Rori Harmon finished with a near triple-double of eight points, seven rebounds, nine assists, and four steals. Harmon is now just three assists shy of cracking into the top 10 in career assists at UT having only played in 68 games
• Leading the team in scoring was Senior Taylor Jones with 19 points on an efficient 8-12 from the floor and grabbed 12 rebounds marking her fourth double-double as a Longhorn.
• Freshman Madison Booker marked her Texas debut with a start and a well-balanced seven points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.
• Freshman Gisella Maul made her Texas debut with nine points as the connected on 3-5 from three-point range.
