Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo, a native of Westbury, N.Y., who has been one of the top juniors players in the world, will join the Longhorns’ roster in the fall of 2024.
Austin – University of Texas Women's Tennis has signed prep standout Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) and Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA), head coach Howard Joffe announced Thursday. Anazagasty-Pursoo will enroll and join the program in the fall of 2024.
"Ariana is a player that Texas fans are going to love to watch," Joffe said. "And her tennis, abilities and achievements will be remembered on the 40 acres long after she has played here. Ariana has consistently been amongst the top player or two in her age group throughout her celebrated junior career. She is also amongst the top junior players in the world, having competed at The French Open, Wimbledon and US Open. During her recruitment, I was able to meet her parents and even extended family, and it's easy to see why she is such a lovable, kind, highly intelligent, sincere, honest and deeply resourced person. Ariana chose Texas over some of the strongest programs in collegiate tennis, and I am so grateful to her, her parents and her coach for the faith and trust they have afforded me and our program. I intend to work with Ariana to have her college experience be rich and rewarding, and along that journey, to ensure that she rises to the top in collegiate tennis and is well prepared for a career as a touring pro once her time in Austin ends."
"I chose Texas because I feel that it is the best place to continue developing my game and to help me achieve my long-term goals," Anazagasty-Pursoo said. "I also feel it's the best place for me to continue growing as a person on and off the court through the experiences I'll have there. I love the energy the coaches, players and staff bring every day, and I can't wait to be a part of it."
A native of Westbury, N.Y., Anazagasty-Pursoo is one of the top juniors players in the world with a career high ranking of No. 38. She is rated as a Blue Chip recruit by TennisRecruiting.net, which has listed her as high as No. 2 in the nation and No. 1 in the state of New York.
Anazagasty-Pursoo played both singles and doubles in all four junior majors in 2023. In singles, she advanced to the round of 32 at Wimbledon and was in the round of 64 at the Australian Open, Roland Garros and the US Open. In doubles, she made the round of 16 at the US Open and was in the round of 32 at the other three. Prior that, she reached the US Open singles round of 32 in 2022, and the doubles round of 16 in 2021. Additionally, she got to the singles final of the JA Merida in Mexico in 2022.
She has won five juniors titles in her career, including doubles at the ITF J300 Pan American Closed in Houston where she paired with Maya Joint, who she also combined with to win the J2 Montreal in 2022. Her other doubles title also came that year at the J1 Guadalajara. Her singles titles came at the J3s in Santo Domingo and Coral Gables in 2022.
In professional play, she was just edged in a third-set superbreaker by future teammate Nicole Rivkin at the W25 Florence in South Carolina last year.
