Austin – The University of Texas Women's Tennis team was No. 11 in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings of the 2026 season released Wednesday. It marks the ninth consecutive year the Longhorns have finished in the top 15 of the final ITA national poll.
Texas earned a No. 6 ranking in 2018, No. 9 in 2019 and No. 4 in 2020. The Longhorns were tabbed No. 1 in both 2021 and 2022 when they claimed back-to-back NCAA team National Championships, and then were No. 7 in 2023, No. 11 in 2024, and No. 13 in 2025.
Texas concluded the 2026 season with an 19-8 overall record, reached the NCAA Sweet 16 for the sixth-straight year, and advanced to the round of 16 of the ITA National Indoor Championships for the ninth-straight year.
The Longhorns came within a few points of reaching the Elite Eight after nearly winning at No. 8 NC State in the round of 16. During the season, Texas put together a seven-match winning streak as part of winning a stretch of 10 out of 11. That included wins over No. 1 Georgia and No. 10 LSU.
In the individual rankings, Texas closed with four in singles and three in doubles, topped by sophomore Carmen Herea finished No. 3 in the singles rankings, which is the highest for a Longhorn since Peyton Stearns finished No. 1 in 2022, and prior to that Anna Turati at No. 4 in 2020. Herea also reach No. 1 during the season, becoming the fourth Longhorn since 1995 to do so, including Peyton Stearns in 2022, Bianca Turati in 2018 and Kelly Pace in 1995.
Along with Herea, freshman Anastasia Abbagnato finished No. 13 in singles, sophomore Eszter Meri was No. 66, and freshman Elizabeth Ionescu was No. 120. Abbagnato and sophomore Salma Drugdova were then No. 35 in doubles, while Abbagnato and Ionescu were No. 40, and Ionescu and freshman Christasha McNeil were No. 62.
