Maya Joint, a native of Grosse Pointe, Mich., who has been one of the top juniors players in the world, will join the Longhorns’ roster in the fall of 2024.
Austin – University of Texas Women's Tennis has signed prep standout Maya Joint to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) and Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA), head coach Howard Joffe announced Thursday. Joint will enroll and join the program in the fall of 2024.
"In a year where our program loses four seniors, the need to replace our roster with high talent and quality people has never been greater," Joffe said. "With the signing of Maya Joint, I believe we are well on our way. Maya has just completed beating three players inside WTA 250 in a pro event in Sydney, Australia. She is also one of the top junior players in the world. And perhaps most significantly, Maya is one of the funniest, brightest, kindest and most resourced young ladies you could ever hope to meet. I am so grateful to Maya, her parents and her coach, Emily, for choosing Texas. I intend to work with Maya to help her achieve all her collegiate goals, as well as those aspirations beyond the college realm."
"I was looking for an experienced coach and proven program that could help me reach my goal of becoming a top professional player," Joint said. "After meeting Coach Joffe and assistant coach Justin Butsch in person and seeing the world-class facilities during my visit at UT, I knew this would be the perfect place for me. To be able to pursue my academic goals along with my tennis goals in such a lively city like Austin is dream come true. I'm excited and determined to help the team win another NCAA title during my time in Texas, and I'm equally excited to be part of the UT family."
A native of Grosse Pointe, Mich., who is now affiliated with Australia, Joint is one of the top juniors players in the world with a career high ranking of No. 29, while she is also currently ranked career highs of No. 773 in singles and No. 669 in doubles by the WTA. She is rated as a Blue Chip recruit by TennisRecruiting.net, which has listed her as high as No. 3 in the nation and No. 1 in the state of Michigan.
This past week, Joint topped three players who all have career-high WTA rankings better than No. 170 in Priscilla Hon, Yuki Naito and Jaimee Fourlis at the W60 Sydney in Australia on her way to the semifinals. She also defeated Ganna Poznikhirenko, who has a WTA career high of No. 255, at the W15 in Waco last November, and reached the doubles semifinals of that tournament before later making the doubles final of the W25 Toronto in March of this year.
In juniors in 2023, Joint reached the doubles round of 16 and singles round of 64 at the US Open, along with the doubles round of 32 at the Roland Garros.
Joint has won a combined 14 juniors titles with seven in singles and seven in doubles, including both at last month's Pan American Closed in Houston for her first two ITF J300 titles. For the doubles title, she partnered with Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo, who she also combined with to win the J2 Montreal in 2022. Additionally in 2023, she won the singles titles at the J200s in Gladbeck, Germany and Woodbridge, Canada.
