Texas ex returns to the pool with gold medal performance
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Texas Ex Alison Gibson took home the gold medal at the 2023 USA Diving Winter National Championships.
Gibson and 2020 Tokyo Olympics teammate Krysta Palmer paired together in the women's synchronized 3-meter and won gold with a score of 582.4 points. The duo scored 75.48 points on their front 2 ½ with two twists in the final round to solidify their gold medal.
Friday's performance was not only their first competition together since the Tokyo Olympics, but also first true competition for Gibson overall.
"After summer nationals, people were like 'hey, you should come back, we'd love to see you out there again'. At first, I laughed, like that's hilarious and then I was like, I don't know," Gibson said to the media. "I started thinking about it and took time in silence by myself and thought maybe this is something I should pursue. I'm really glad I had Krsyta by my side for it. It made it really fun."
The win qualifies the pair for the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar, where they will look to qualify the United States for the 2024 Olympic Games in their synchro events.
