No. 5/7 Women’s Basketball falls against No. 10/11 Baylor, 85-79

Freshman Madison Booker led the Longhorns with 25 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds.
Austin, TEXAS — The No. 5/7 Texas women's basketball team came up short in an 85-79 defeat on Saturday at Moody Center.
Madison Booker scored a season-high 25 points and added eight assists and seven rebounds. Amina Muhammad had a season-high with 17 points and five rebounds, including two steals. Shay Holle tailed 13 points and four rebounds. Shaylee Gonzales had 12 points, four rebounds, and six steals.
Texas (13-1, 0-1) trailed 21-8 at the 1:53 mark of the first quarter but used a 9-0 run in the second quarter and got within one at 28-27 on an offensive rebound and putback from Khadija Faye. Faye recorded two of the Longhorns 10 offensive rebounds in the game.
After falling behind 23-15 at the end of the first quarter, Texas outscored Baylor by two points in each of the second and third quarter to go into the fourth quarter with the score 59-55.
Texas closed to within three at 76-73 with 2:46 to play in the fourth quarter, but the Bears extended their lead to six and prevailed 85-79.
Up next the Longhorns will travel to Lubbock to take on Texas Tech on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 6:00 p.m. CT.

• The Longhorns shot 31-of-60 (51.7 percent) marking the 10th game this season and the fifth straight game they have shot over 50 percent.
• Baylor game into the game averaging 15 offensive rebounds per game and Texas limited the Bears to five offensive rebounds.
• Four players scored in double figures for the Longhorns.
• Shaylee Gonzales and Shay Holle each played 40 minutes for Texas.
• The Longhorns forced 22 Baylor turnovers and recorded 10 steals with six of those steals coming from Shaylee Gonzales.

• Shaylee Gonzales knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and has made 14 shots from beyond the 3-point arc over her last four games.
• Madison Booker scored in double figures for her fourth straight game. Booker shot 9-of-18 from the field and converted 6-of-7 at the free-throw line.
• Amina Muhammad shot 6-of-9 from the field and added five rebounds and two steals.
