No. 6/5 Men's Basketball beats Oklahoma 85-83 in overtime

Rice posts a game-high 24 points, while Carr tops the 700 mark in career assists.
AUSTIN, Texas — Graduate guard Sir'Jabari Rice registered a game-high 24 points to pace No. 6/5 Texas (21-6, 10-4 Big 12) to an 85-83 win in overtime against Oklahoma (13-14, 3-11 Big 12) on Saturday afternoon in Moody Center. The Longhorns improved to 14-5 under Interim Head Coach Rodney Terry, including a 7-0 mark under Terry in games decided by five points or less or in overtime.
Texas completed the regular-season sweep of the Sooners for the second-straight year with the win. The Longhorns have now won five straight and six of the last seven over Oklahoma.
Rice tied his season high in scoring while converting 8-of-13 field goals, including 4-of-6 from three-point range, and 4-of-5 free throws in a season-high-tying 34 minutes. Graduate Marcus Carr posted 17 points while hitting a season-best 9-of-11 from the free throw line and added six rebounds, four assists without a turnover, and two steals in a season-high 43 minutes. Carr also became just the fourth active NCAA Division I player to reach 700 career assists during the victory.
Super senior Timmy Allen recorded 15 points while converting 7-of-13 field goals, a game-high nine rebounds, four assists and two steals in a season-high 41 minutes. Senior Dylan Disu registered 12 points while hitting 5-of-8 field goals in 24 minutes, and graduate Brock Cunningham added 10 points while hitting 4-of-7 field goals, including 2-of-3 from three-point range, four rebounds (all offensive) and four assists in a career-high 33 minutes.
A back-and-forth first half featured nine lead changes and three ties. With his assist on Allen's layup at the 13:57 mark of the first half, Carr recorded his 700th career assist. Oklahoma jumped out to a 12-6 advantage following a Grant Sherfield layup at the 13:26 mark, before the Longhorns responded with a 7-0 spurt to grab a 13-12 lead after a Cunningham baseline jumper with 11:41 remaining.
Texas extended its cushion to 21-16 following a Rice three-point play at the 9:27 mark. The Sooners answered with a 7-0 run to take a 23-21 lead after a Milos Uzan three-point play with 7:50 remaining. The Longhorns built a 27-23 advantage following a Carr jumper at the 5:20 mark, but Oklahoma chipped away and evened the score at 34-34 going into the break.
Texas grabbed a 44-40 lead after a Christian Bishop layup with 16:11 remaining. After a Carr jumper gave the Longhorns a 48-47 advantage at the 13:11 mark, the Sooners used back-to-back three-pointers from Jalen Hill and Joe Bamisile to build a 53-48 cushion with 12:08 left. Oklahoma increased its margin to 63-56 following a pair of Tanner Groves free throws at the 8:21 mark. Texas used a pair of Carr free throws and a Rice three-pointer to trim the deficit to 63-61 with 7:29 left.
The Sooners took a 67-61 lead after a pair of free throws by Bamisile at the 6:07 mark, before the Longhorns used a 9-0 run over the next 1:12 to grab a 70-67 advantage following a Rice three-pointer with 4:55 left. A Disu free throw gave Texas a 73-68 advantage at the 2:30 mark, but Oklahoma scored the final five points of regulation capped by a Sherfield three-pointer with seven seconds left to force overtime.
In the extra session, the Sooners grabbed a 75-73 lead after a Hill jumper with 4:41 left, before Texas scored eight-straight points to build an 81-75 cushion following an Allen layup at the 3:01 mark. UT extended its cushion to 84-77 after a Rice three-pointer with 2:26 remaining, but Oklahoma used a 6-0 run to trim the deficit to a single point (84-83) following an Uzan layup with seven seconds left. Tyrese Hunter hit 1-of-2 free throws to give the Longhorns an 85-83 lead with six seconds remaining, and Sam Godwin missed a layup at the buzzer that would have forced a second overtime.
Texas is back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 21 when it hosts No. 19/18 Iowa State. Tip is set for 8 p.m. Central at Moody Center, and the game will be televised nationally by Longhorn Network.
