No. 2 Women’s Swimming shines at Sterkel Classic

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 2 Women's Swimming and Diving closed out the regular season with a strong showing at The Sterkel Classic on Saturday at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. The Longhorns competed against Rice and TCU in time trials ahead of the teams' conference championships.
The meet was highlighted by performances from Kelly Pash, Abby Pfeifer and Olivia McMurray, who each tallied top-10 times in the nation in their respective events.
Pfeiffer started things off in the 1650 free, winning with a personal-best time of 16:07.14, knocking 30 seconds off her previous best to record the eighth-fastest time in the nation this season. The mark established a meet record and placed her as the number nine performer in the event in program history.
Pash swam a personal-best in the 200 fly with a time of 1:51.45, a half-second drop from her previous top time to climb to third on UT's all-time performer list. A meet record, her time is the second-fastest in the NCAA this year, behind teammate Emma Sticklen (1:51.37) and just ahead of fellow Longhorn Dakota Luther (1:51.58).
McMurray followed with a 4:39.38 in the 500 free, a personal-best and the fifth-fastest time in the nation this year. She also moved into the Texas all-time top-10 as the seventh-fastest Longhorn in the event.
Next up, Texas will host the Big 12 Championship at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center, Feb. 22-25.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Bridget Semenuk swam a 50 free meet record of 22.06 and climbed into the Texas Top-10 as the number eight performer in program history.
- Texas swam the top-four times in the 100 free with personal bests by Ava Longi (48.90) and Emma Sticklen (48.95) and season bests from Sienna Schellenger (50.09) and Ellie McLeod (50.73).
- Channing Hanley swam a 200 breast season best of 2:10.41.
- The Longhorns had the three fastest marks in the 400 IM, led by Dakota Luther's personal-best swim of 4:13.00, while Ella Myers (4:22.64) finished second and Chase Davison (4:24.48) placed third.
- Longi won the 100 fly, establishing another personal best with a time of 52.84.
- UT had the three fastest swims in the 100 breast, with Hanley winning in 1:00.58, followed by Lindsey Hosch (1:01.97 – SB) and Jordan Morgan (1:03.25).
- Meghan DiMartile posted the top 100 back time with a 55.09.
