No. 9 Women’s Tennis sweeps No. 65 Brown, 7-0

The Longhorns win their fifth-straight match to improve to 15-3 overall on the season.
AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 9 University of Texas Women's Tennis team registered a 7-0 sweep against No. 65 Brown on Tuesday afternoon at the Texas Tennis Center. The Longhorns (15-3, 5-1 Big 12) earned the doubles point and won all six singles matches in straight sets against the Bears (11-6).
Texas grabbed a 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point. The tandem of juniors Charlotte Chavatipon and Malaika Rapolu posted a 6-2 victory on court 3 over Phoebe Peus and Lindsey Hofflander. Chavatipon and Rapolu won the opening five games of their match, before Peus and Hofflander claimed back-to-back games to pull within 5-2. Chavatipon and Rapolu earned a service break in the following game to close out the win.
The duo of freshman Nicole Rivkin and junior Taisiya Pachkaleva clinched the doubles point for the Longhorns with a 6-3 win on court 2 against Vivian Miller and Nora Lee. Rivkin and Pachkaleva built a 4-1 advantage, before the two teams traded service breaks over each of the next three games to make the score 5-3. Rivkin and Pachkaleva finished off the 6-3 win with a service break to move to 11-4 overall in doubles this season, including a 9-4 mark in dual-match play.
No. 66 Chavatipon opened singles action with a 6-0, 6-3 victory on court 2 over Lau. After a shutout win in her opening set, Chavatipon trailed 3-2 in the second set. She closed out her match by winning the next four games to improve to 13-3 in dual-match singles action this spring. Graduate No. 104 Marlee Zein gave the Longhorns a 3-0 cushion with a 6-1, 6-1 win on court 6 against Olivia Mariotti. Zein claimed the first five games in her opening set en route to the 6-1 first-set victory. Tied at 1-1 in the second set, Zein rattled off five-straight games to finish her match and move to 19-6 overall in singles this season, including a 6-1 mark in dual-match play.
Pachkaleva clinched the overall dual-match victory for the Longhorns with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court 3 against Peus. Trailing 1-0 in her opening set, Pachkaleva claimed six of the next seven games to complete a 6-2 first-set win. Tied at 2-2 in the second set, Pachkaleva closed out the win by winning the following four games to improve to 11-2 in dual-match singles action.
Playing out the remaining singles matches, Rivkin posted a 6-2, 6-1 win on court 5 over Hofflander. Even at 2-2 in the opening set, Rivkin claimed 10 of the next 11 games to finish off her win and move to 12-5 overall in singles this season, including an 10-4 mark in dual-match play. Rapolu followed with a 6-0, 6-3 victory on court 4 against Addison Ahlstrom. Trailing 2-1 in her second set, she won five of the next six games to improve to 20-7 overall in singles this season, including a 12-4 mark in dual-match action.
Freshman No. 76 Khirin closed out Tuesday's match with a 6-4, 6-2 victory on court 1 over Ali Benedetto. Tied at 4-4 in her opening set, Khirin held serve and then broke Benedetto to claim a 6-4 first-set win. She won the first three games of the second set and cruised to the 6-2 second-set victory to move to 8-3 in dual-match singles play this spring.
Texas is back in action when it travels to face TCU in a Big 12 Conference matchup on Friday, Mar. 31. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m. Central at the Bartzen Varsity Courts in Fort Worth, Texas.
