The Longhorns won four races against the Cavaliers in Texas’ final races before the Big 12 Championships.
EARLYSVILLE, Va. – No. 1 Texas Rowing swept four races against No. 10 Virginia on Monday morning at the Rivanna Reservoir. Monday's action marked the final regular season races for Texas before the Big 12 Championships.
"It's hard to think that we raced in Princeton just two days ago, but this quick turnaround is exactly what we needed. The team absolutely made the most of this opportunity against a good Virginia team," said Texas head coach Dave O'Neill. "They showed what they're capable of doing right from the start, and every boat raced hard the whole way. We made a number of changes the last couple of days. Some might be noticed from the outside, but the most important ones are those only we know. I'm proud of everyone and look forward to what's ahead."
The Texas Fours opened the morning with a pair of dominant victories. The II Four opened the session winning by almost a 20-second margin, crossing the line in 7:18.60 followed by UVA in 7:38.40. Texas' I Four followed with a 10-second victory, posting a time of 7:12.70 to the Cavaliers' 7:22.70.
Texas' II Eight added another impressive victory, registering a winning time of 6:28.90, nine seconds ahead of the Virginia boat that posted a time of 6:37.90.
In the I Eight, the Longhorns closed out the sweep with a time of 6:17.10 to top the Cavaliers' first eight that wrapped up the session in 6:24.70.
