Nine Longhorns to represent USA Swimming at World Aquatics Championships

Seven Longhorn swimmers, as well as Texas head coaches Carol Capitani and Eddie Reese, will represent the U.S. in Japan next month.
INDIANAPOLIS – Texas Swimming will have seven athletes compete for Team USA at the World Aquatics Championships, USA Swimming announced following the Phillips 66 National Championships on Saturday night. The seven Longhorns were among 48 selected for the world meet to be held July 14-30 in Fukuoka, Japan. Additionally, Texas Women's head coach Carol Capitani will serve as head coach for the United States Women's Team. Texas Men's head coach Eddie Reese was announced as part of the assistant coaching staff.
The men's team will include Carson Foster, Luke Hobson, David Johnston and Drew Kibler. Foster had a standout performance at the U.S. national championships, winning national titles in the 200-meter butterfly, 200-meter individual medley and 400-meter individual medley. Hobson captured gold in the 400-meter freestyle and Johnston won the crown in the 1500-meter freestyle, while Kibler earned bronze in the 200-meter freestyle.
Lydia Jacoby will be among those featured on the women's team, as will incoming Longhorns Jillian Cox and Erin Gemmell. Jacoby was a two-time medalist at the national championships, capturing silvers in the 50-meter and 100-meter breaststrokes. Cox earned silver in the 800-meter freestyle and placed fifth in the 1500-meter free, and Gemmell had top-five showings in the 200-meter free (fourth) and 400-meter free (fifth).
In addition to the Longhorns selected to represent the United States next month, a pair of pros who train in Austin were named to the World Championship Team rosters. Leah Smith, who trains with Capitani, and Shaine Casas, who trains with Reese, will both race for Team USA in Japan.
