AUSTIN, Texas — Ithiel Horton has signed an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA) to play basketball next season at The University of Texas, head coach Rodney Terry announced Monday. Ithiel, who previously played at UCF (2022-23), Pittsburgh (2019-22) and Delaware (2018-19), will join the Longhorns as a graduate transfer for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
Horton (6-5, 200), a guard from Vauxhall, N.J., has played in 102 career games (83 starts) and registered 1,177 points (11.5 ppg), 316 rebounds (3.1 rpg) and 158 assists (1.5 apg) in 3,107 minutes (30.5 mpg) during his first five years of collegiate basketball. He has converted 37.6-percent (225-599) from three-point range and 80.8-percent (118-146) from the free throw line in his career.
Horton previously earned his bachelor's degree in Social Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh. He sat out the 2019-20 season at Pittsburgh due to NCAA transfer rules and has one year of collegiate eligibility remaining.
During his redshirt senior season in 2022-23 at UCF, Horton played and started in all 34 games while helping the Knights post a 19-15 record (8-10 AAC) and advance to the NIT Second Round. He ranked second on the team in minutes (31.0 mpg), third in scoring (12.3 ppg), rebounding (3.7 rpg) and steals (47) and fourth in assists (54) while leading the squad with 78 three-pointers made. Horton reached double figures in scoring 22 times, including four 20-point performances. He posted a season-high 30 points in UCF's 107-104 double overtime win against Memphis (Jan. 11) and hit a season-best seven three-pointers against South Florida (Feb. 22).
As a redshirt junior at Pittsburgh in 2021-22, Horton played in 13 games (eight starts) and averaged 9.8 points and 2.7 rebounds in 30.1 minutes per contest. He converted 37.9-percent (25-66) from three-point range and 87.5-percent (14-16) from the free throw line on the year. Horton tallied a season-high 25 points (7-13 threes) in a win at Florida State (Feb. 9) and registered 19 points (5-5 threes) and five boards in a win at North Carolina (Feb. 16).
During his redshirt sophomore year in 2020-21 at Pittsburgh, Horton played in 22 games (18 starts) and averaged 8.9 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.6 steals in 26.8 minutes per contest. He led the team with 43 three-pointers made and converted 37.1-percent (43-116) from three-point range on the year. Horton reached double figures in scoring 10 times, including six games with at least 15 points. He tallied a season-high 20 points (7-12 FG, 5-10 threes) and six rebounds against Syracuse (Jan. 6) and added 18 points (4-6 threes) in a win at Miami (Dec. 16).
Horton spent his true freshman season at Delaware in 2018-19. He played in all 33 games (23 starts) and averaged 13.2 points and 3.1 rebounds in 32.6 minutes per contest while claiming a spot on the Colonial Athletic Association All-Freshman team. Horton led all CAA freshmen in scoring and converted 40.9-percent (79-193) from three-point range and 78.6-percent (55-70) from the free throw line on the year. A four-time CAA Rookie of the Week selection, he reached double figures in scoring 22 times, including seven 20-point performances. Horton set a school freshman record with 79 three-pointers made and ranked sixth in the league in three-pointers made, eighth in three-point percentage (.409) and 19th in scoring (13.2 ppg). He tied a school freshman record and set his career high with 31 points (10-15 FG, 9-13 threes) at UNC-Wilmington (Jan. 10). Horton also earned a spot on the CAA All-Tournament Team by averaging 23.5 ppg in a pair of contests.
Horton attended Roselle Catholic High School (Roselle, N.J.) during his senior season (2017-18) and led the squad to the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions final, the Non-Public B championship, Watchung Division title and Union County Tournament championship. He ranked second on the team in scoring (13.7 ppg) and paced the squad with 58 three-pointers made on the year. Horton spent his junior season (2016-17) at St. Anthony High School (Jersey City, N.J.) and averaged 10 points, three rebounds and three assists per game. St. Anthony's closed in the spring of 2017. Horton was a two-year starter at Union High School (Union, N.J.) during his freshman and sophomore seasons.
