Pineda finishes seventh in 3-meter synchro at World Aquatics Championships

Texas Ex Paola Pineda teamed with Arantxa Chávez to place seventh for Mexico in the final.
FUKUOKA, Japan – Former Texas diver Paola Pineda finished seventh in the 3-meter synchronized springboard final at the World Aquatics Championships at the Fukuoka Prefectural Pool on Monday.
Pineda and partner Arantxa Chávez, diving for Mexico, totaled 274.50 points, 11.49 points shy of a podium spot. China's Chang Yani and Chen Yiwen won gold with 341.94, while Great Britain's Scarlett Mew Jensen and Yasmin Harper (296.58) finished as the runners-up and Italy's Chiara Pellacani and Elena Bertocchi (285.99) placed third.
Pineda and Chávez were in ninth heading into the fifth and final round. The duo scored 68.40 points on with a forward 2½ somersaults 1 twist pike to climb into seventh.
Next up for Texas, two-time Big 12 Diver of the Year Hailey Hernandez will compete in the 3-meter springboard with the preliminary rounds taking place on Wednesday, July 19 at 7 p.m. CT. Incoming Longhorn Caroline Kupka of Norway will also dive in the 3-meter competition.
