Alfred finishes fifth in 100m World Championships final

Alfred was St. Lucia's first track athlete to reach a major championship final.
BUDAPEST – Julien Alfred became the first St. Lucian sprinter to ever reach a major championship final on Monday at the World Athletics Championships.
She reached her eighth 100m final of the season going undefeated all year, including wins at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games and a win at her Diamond League debut in Hungary before finishing fifth with a time of 10.93 at the world finals.
Alfred, the NCAA undefeated outdoor 100-meter champion, reached the finals after winning Heat 3 of the semifinals with her time of 10.92.
Texas' 2023 NCAA outdoor 400-meter champion Rhasidat Adeleke also took to the track on Monday to compete in her own semifinal race. Adeleke of Ireland finished second in Heat 1 with her time of 49.87 and will run in Wednesday's final from lane 4.
