Bizimana becomes fourth male Longhorn to earn the award during the indoor season.
AUSTIN, Texas – Senior Yusuf Bizimana was named the USTFCCCA Male National Athlete of the Week after his season opening performance in Louisville, Ky.
Breaking a eight-year NCAA Indoor 1,000-meter record doesn't happen every day, but Bizimana made it happen in his very first 1,000m race of his career. The London, England native broke the record with his time of 2:18.10, shaving .16 seconds off Brannon Kidder of Penn State's record set in 2016. The time took down Pablo Squella's UT record of 2:21.19 that stood for 38 years.
Tuesday's award marks the fourth time a male athlete from Texas has been named the M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week during the indoor season. "Fly" joins 2023 honoree Brian Herron and two-time 2021 honoree Tripp Piperi.
