Men’s Basketball ranked No. 19 in AP preseason poll

The Longhorns open the 2024-25 season on Monday, Nov. 4 against Ohio State in Las Vegas.
AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas Men's Basketball team is ranked No. 19 in The Associated Press' Preseason Top 25, the wire service announced Monday. The Longhorns are one of nine Southeastern Conference teams selected in The AP preseason Top 25, joining Alabama (2), Auburn (11), Tennessee (12), Texas A&M (13), Arkansas (16), Florida (21), Kentucky (23) and Ole Miss (24).
UT has now made 21 appearances in school history in The AP preseason poll, including each of the last five years. Texas was tabbed No. 6 in 1978-79, No. 22 in 1990-91, No. 16 in 1996-97, No. 22 in 1997-98, No. 21 in 1999-2000, No. 23 in 2001-02, No. 4 in 2002-03, No. 12 in 2003-04, No. 16 in 2004-05, No. 2 in 2005-06, No. 21 in 2006-07, No. 15 in 2007-08, No. 7 in 2008-09, No. 3 in 2009-10, No. 10 in 2014-15, No. 21 in 2016-17, No. 19 in 2020-21, No. 5 in 2021-22, No. 12 in 2022-23 and No. 18 in 2023-24.
Texas has advanced to at least the NCAA Round of 32 in each of the last three seasons, including making a run to the NCAA Elite Eight in Rodney Terry's first year as head coach in 2022-23. This marks the first time Texas has won its NCAA First Round game in three consecutive seasons since UT won four-straight NCAA First-Round games from 2006-09. The Longhorns are one of just eight programs nationally to advance to at least the NCAA Tournament Round of 32 in each of the last three years, joining Baylor, Creighton, Gonzaga, Houston, Kansas, Michigan State and Tennessee.
Texas opens the 2024-25 season with a neutral-site contest against Ohio State on Monday, Nov. 4 as part of the Hall of Fame Series Las Vegas Opening Night event. Tip is slated for approximately 9 p.m. Central (7 p.m. Pacific) at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and the game will be televised nationally by TNT and truTV and streamed by Max. The Longhorns will play their home opener against Houston Christian presented by Truist on Friday, Nov. 8. Tipoff for the home opener is set for 7 p.m. Central in Moody Center, and the contest will be streamed by SEC Network+.
