Women’s Tennis’ Anazagasty-Pursoo wins ITA Texas Regionals singles title

The Longhorns took the top three spots, as freshman Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo won her first collegiate title, freshman Ashton Bowers was runner-up, and junior Vivian Ovrootsky took third place.
Fort Worth – Texas Women's Tennis freshman Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo won the singles title at the ITA Texas Regional Championships in Fort Worth on Tuesday.
The Longhorns took the top three spots in the tournament as freshman No. 104 Ashton Bowers was runner-up, and junior No. 96 Vivian Ovrootsky took third place. It marked the second-straight year Texas has had both the champion and runner-up in the tournament after Malaika Rapolu won and Charlotte Chavatipon reached the final last year.
Anazagasty-Pursoo won her first collegiate title by topping Bowers, 6-4, 6-4, while Ovrootsky defeated Daria Smetannikov of Texas A&M, 6-2, 6-4.
Head coach Howard Joffe secured having a singles finalist or winner in the tournament for the 14th consecutive year with 10 straight at Texas and the previous four at Texas A&M.
