AUSTIN, Texas – No. 1 men's swimming's Rex Maurer and Cooper Lucas have earned SEC weekly honors, the league announced on Tuesday.
Maurer has been named the SEC Co-Swimmer of the Week for the second time in his career after a historic week at the Texas Invitational. Not even an hour after Carson Foster broke the American Record in the 500 free, Maurer recorded the new record with a winning time of 4:04.45. The time broke the Texas and the SEC record in the process.
He showed his range by winning the 1650 free with a time of 14:30.47, the second-fastest time in school history, won the 200 back (1:38.27) and the 400 IM (3:34.19) with UT All-Time top-10 performances along the way. He later helped Texas win the 800 free relay with an NCAA-leading time of 6:09.30.
Lucas won his first SEC honor as SEC Co-Freshman of the Week after posting three top-10 finishes with NCAA-B cut times. He finished third in the 400 IM in 3:40.75, was fifth in the 200 fly in 1:42.72 and seventh in the 500 free in 4:16.31. His 400 IM times ranks seventh in the NCAA, while his fly time is ninth.
