AUSTIN, Texas – Jillian Cox and Emma Sticklen of the No. 2 women's swim program earned their second SEC Weekly honor on Tuesday, the conference announced.
Cox, the redshirt-sophomore, set two program records in the distance free events at the UT Invitational to earn SEC Freshman of the Week honors. Cox's 500 free not only took down her own UT record with a time of 4:30.68, but also the SEC record. She continued her hot streak in the distance events winning her collegiate opener in the 1650 and won with a time of 15:34.66. The time broke the UT Record by 11 seconds. Both her winning times lead the NCAA this season.
Sticklen continued her dominant final campaign with the Longhorns after she won four individual events and one relay, while setting four UT program records on her way to being named SEC Swimmer of the Week. The two-time defending 200 butterfly champion set the NCAA-leading time in the event with her time of 1:49.54, breaking the SEC record and leads the NCAA.
She also leads the NCAA in the 200 IM with a NCAA-A cut time of 1:52.75, broke the UT Record in the 50 free with her opening leg of 21.50, helped UT win the 200 medley relay (1:34.06), won the 100 back (50.85) and re-set her 100 fly UT record with a time of 49.60.
It's the second time this season both Cox and Sticklen won their respective honors.
