No. 5/6 Women’s Basketball ends non-conference play with 94-35 win over UTRGV

AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 5 Texas women's basketball held The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to 13 second half points in a 94-35 win at Moody Center on Sunday.
Sophomore Madison Booker scored 14 points and tallied seven rebounds and seven assists with zero turnovers and three steals. Kyla Oldacre led Texas with 21 points on 6-of-6 shooting from the field. Taylor Jones scored in double figures with 11 points and added nine rebounds. Freshmen Bryanna Preston and Jordan Lee each recorded nine points.
The Longhorns connected on 80.8 percent of their free throws to add 21 points to the board. Texas forced 37 UTRGV turnovers, converting 47 points off of those turnovers. The Longhorns dominated the Vaqueros, out-rebounding UTRGV 44-29.
A field goal from Jones sent Texas on a 10-0 scoring run to start the opening quarter. Following a Booker layup, Texas went on an 11-0 spurt, extending their lead to 21-3. Texas then forced thirteen turnovers to add 17 points to the board to finish the first quarter ahead, 24-5.
With a 7-0 run over 0:42 of playing time, the Longhorns forced a 3:34 Vaquero field goal drought to open the second quarter. Oldacre continued to post 13 points and five rebounds to position the Longhorns with a 46-22 lead at the half.
With a jumper from Booker and an assist from Harmon, Texas started the second half with a 6-0 run. Booker recorded eight points, four rebounds, and four assists to lead the Longhorns to a 70-26 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Booker connected on a pair of free throws to open the fourth quarter against the Vaqueros. Texas continued with a 6-0 run over 0:54 of playing time to extend their lead and finish the game, 94-35.
Next up, No. 5 Texas goes into conference play and travels to Norman, Okla. to take on No. 9 Oklahoma on Thursday, January 2 at 8:00 pm CT. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
