AUSTIN, Texas — Texas women's basketball freshman Madison Booker was named to the 2024 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Women's Player of the Year Midseason Team, the Atlanta Tipoff Club/Naismith Awards announced on Tuesday.
Booker has scored in double figured in 14 straight games and has seven games scoring 20 or more points this season. Against ranked opponents, Booker is averaging 20.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game. That is the third best among all NCAA women's basketball D1 players.
Booker has been named to the Wooden Award Top 20 Watch List, which goes to the player of the year in men's and women's college basketball. Booker has also been named to the Cheryl Miller Award Top 10 list, which goes to the top small forward in women's college basketball.
Booker is four-time Big 12 weekly award winner this season and a three-time national weekly award winner. Booker's 111 assists for the season rank seventh in UT program history on the freshman assist record list.
"Madison Booker got thrown into the point guard role right when conference play started and she has stepped up in such a big way," head coach Vic Schaefer said. It is hard enough for a freshman to learn one position, but then be thrown into another position and the point guard has to know all the other positions too. You are responsible for everyone else. I think Madison has done it in every big game we have played in. She works so hard and is so humble. From a skillset position and having to run a team she is special and is doing it in challenging circumstances."
