AUSTIN, Texas — Texas women's basketball freshman Madison Booker has been named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale USBWA National Player of the Year Watchlist, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Booker, who has scored in double figures in 18 straight games and 20-plus in nine games this season has helped lead Texas to a 26-3 overall record and currently ranked No. 3 in the latest Associated Press top-25 poll.
In Big 12 play, Booker is averaging 19.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists while shooting 48.1 percent from the field and 93.3 percent from the free-throw line.
Against ranked opponents this season, Booker is averaging 20.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game.
Booker has earned six Big 12 weekly awards and three national weekly awards this season. On February 19, Booker was named both the Big 12 Player and Freshman of the Week, something that has only happened three other times in the last 15 years in the Big 12.
Booker has been named to the Wooden Award Top 20 Watch List, which goes to the player of the year in men's and women's college basketball and the Naismith Trophy Player of the Year Midseason Team. Booker has also been named to the Cheryl Miller Award Top 10 list, which goes to the top small forward in women's college basketball.
"I was completely wowed the first time I watched Madison Booker play in person (against UConn) and have continued to be impressed ever since," said Hall of Famer Rebecca Lobo. "She already has a pro body and a pro game and plays with a maturity beyond that of most freshman. She's a special player."
