AUSTIN, Texas – Together with Truist, congratulations to January's Hook 'Em's Community Heroes: from Women's Tennis, Maddy MacNeille, and from Men's Tennis, Micah Braswell.
Maddy's experiences helping those less fortunate than herself have motivated her to continue supporting efforts to fight food insecurity.
"As someone who grew up in a very fortunate area, I haven't witnessed or experienced much hardship. Things like homelessness and food insecurity were beyond my little "bubble". It wasn't until I visited the school my grandma ran, filled with kids much less fortunate than I, that I saw the struggles that many families face every day around the world. I saw and met kids whose only meals were those they received for free at school. Those images stuck with me and gave me a passion for helping kids struggling with food insecurity."
Micah has a personal connection with adoption, which has granted him an outlook on foster care and adoption services, and the opportunity to share his experiences with others.
"Adoption is close to my heart as my sister joined our family though international adoption. Adoption is all about finding the right family for a child, and my life sure has been shaped and strengthened through this opportunity. Not every family is in the situation to adopt, but every family can support adoption and foster care in various ways. There are many local support groups that come alongside adoptive and foster families to lift children up and equip them for the future."
In recognition of their causes, Truist is proud to donate $500 each to organizations that provide support for food insecurity and adoption services.
