Neugebauer joins Crouser, Manson and Hardee as Longhorn winners
AUSTIN, Texas – Leo Neugebauer was named the 2024 USTFCCCA South Central Region Field Athlete of the Year on Thursday.
Neugebauer capped his final indoor collegiate season with a NCAA title in the heptathlon with his personal best score of 6,347 points. The score also broke his own UT program record, the German National Record and ranks fourth in collegiate history.
Outside of the combined events, the Bowerman Watch List honoree won the Big 12 Indoor long jump title with a mark of 7.92m (26-0) that put him 11th on the seasonal all-college order list. Neugebauer became the first Longhorn to ever win both an open and multi event in Longhorn history at a conference meet.
Friday's award marks the first time a Longhorn has won the award since Ryan Crouser won three-straight from 2014-16. The duo join Andra Manson (2007) and Trey Hardee )2006) to ever win the Regional Field Athlete of the Year award.
