Women’s Basketball powers to 82-42 win over Drexel in NCAA First Round

Booker sets a new UT program record for assists in an NCAA Tournament game with 14.
AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas women's basketball team outscored Drexel 34-12 in the third quarter and cruised to an 82-42 win on Friday at Moody Center.
In front of a crowd of 7,487 fans the Longhorns improved to 31-4 on the season and have now won 13 of their last 14 games. Texas will await the winner of Alabama and Florida State in the next round of the NCAA Tournament.
Shaylee Gonzales led Texas with 21 points as she connected on 5-of-6 from the 3-point line. Taylor Jones poured in 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting. DeYona Gaston recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Khadija Faye scored 10 of the Longhorns 25 bench points. Shay Holle registered a career-high four blocks in the game.
Madison Booker dished out 14 assists to go with eight points and five rebounds. The 14 assists set a UT program record for assists in an NCAA Tournament game. Booker is the first UT player to record 14 or more assists since Angie Jo Ogletree had 15 against Houston on Jan. 29, 1994. Booker moved into second on the Longhorns all-time freshman assist list and now has 176. She is five away from breaking Rori Harmon's record of 180.
Texas started the game with a 9-0 run and led 19-12 at the end of the first quarter and 40-20 at halftime.
In the third quarter the Longhorns used a 16-0 run to go up 63-23. Texas shot 13-of-20 from the field in the third period and limited Drexel to 5-of-15 shooting.

• With the win Texas improved to 31-4 on the season. The 31 wins matches their most in a season since they had 31 in the 2015-16 season.
• Texas has won 13 of their last 14 games.
• The 40-point win was the 18th time this season the Longhorns have won a game by 20 or more points. 28 of their 31 wins have been by double digits.

• The Longhorns forced 21 Drexel turnovers and held a 28-7 advantage in points off turnovers.
• Texas led second chance points 22-6 and tallied 26 offensive rebounds. The Longhorns outrebounded Drexel 51-23.
