Garrett earns conference honor after sweeping hurdle events at Mt. SAC Relays.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas track and field's women's hurdler Akala Garrett earned her first Big 12 weekly honor on Wednesday afternoon.
The freshman hurdler swept both hurdle events at the 64th annual Mt. SAC Relays and set two personal bests. Garrett began her weekend winning the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.23 seconds and completed her sweep in the 400-meter hurdles with her time of 55.93.
Her 400m hurdles time moved her to No. 8 on the UT All-Time Performer List. Garrett is the only freshman ranked in the top-20 of the NCAA this season and currently sits fourth on the descending order list.
The Longhorns host the Texas Invitational this weekend on April 26-27 for its final home meet of the season.
