No. 8/9 Track and Field's Blazevica, Nwora and Neugebauer earn Big 12 titles

No. 9 Women lead team race with 49 points, while No. 8 Men are third with 42 points.
WACO, Texas – Kristine Blazevica, Leo Neugebauer and Marilyn Nwora were crowned Big 12 Champions on the second day of the outdoor championships. The No. 9 women lead the team standings with 49 points after seven events and the No. 8 men are third with 42.
Blazevica got the scoring started for Texas winning her fourth-straight Big 12 heptathlon title with 5,954 points. The seven-time Big 12 champion becomes the first athlete, male or female, in conference history to win a multi for four years in a row. The score ranks as the seventh-best in UT history and she now owns six of the top-10 performances ever at UT.
Senior Marilyn Nwora led the women in the shot put, claiming her second conference title with her throw of 17.74m (58-2.50). The throw is tied for the 10th-best throw in Texas history. Freshman Nina Ndubuisi won the silver medal with her throw of 17.35m (56-11.25) and Chrystal Herpin finished fifth at 16.27m (53-4.50). The three women totaled 22 team points.
Ackelia Smith and Aaliyah Foster were the final female scorers for the Longhorns after Smith finished with the bronze medal with a jump of 6.47m (21-2.75). Foster was sixth with a jump of 6.11m (20-0.50) to total six team points.
On the men's side, Neugebauer completed the long jump sweep at the conference meets after his first-round jump of 7.77m (25-6). Neugebauer led the Longhorns to score 23 points in the event after Solomon Washington finished as the runner-up with his jump of 7.74m (25-4.75), Jathan Belaire was fourth at 7.62m (25-0) and Brennen McHenry was ninth at 7.34m.
Freshman Brock Lewis was seventh in the decathlon with a personal-best score of 7,067 points. He recorded personal bests in six of his ten events and concluded the competition with an 11-second personal best in the 1500-meter. His seventh-place finish gave Texas two team points.
Texas' final scorers were Patrick Piperi who was sixth in the shot put with a throw of 19.03m (62-5.25) and Michael Pinones who was eighth at 18.20m (59-8.50).
