Track & Field opens outdoor season at UTSA Invitational

Dunn leads Longhorns with shot put victory on opening day.
SAN ANTONIO – Texas Track & Field opened the outdoor portion of its schedule Friday at the UTSA Invitational at Park West Athletics Complex.
Shaiquan Dunn highlighted the day for the Longhorns, winning the men's shot put with a mark of 17.89 meters (58 feet, 8.25 inches). Freshman Benjamin Shue followed with a runner-up finish, posting a throw of 17.64m (57-10.50).
Freshman Brandon Gorski added a top-five finish in the men's long jump, recording a leap of 7.34m (24-1) to place fifth.
On the women's side, freshman Iana Ahetz-Etcheber led Texas in the long jump, finishing eighth with a mark of 5.64m (18-6).
The UTSA Invitational concludes Saturday, March 21, with field events beginning at 11 a.m. and track events set to start at 2 p.m. Ahetz-Etcheber and Caroline Peterson are scheduled to open competition for the women in the high jump, while Sam Abati will represent the men in the pole vault.
