The Longhorns have finished each of the last seven years in the Top 12 of the final ITA ratings.
Austin – The University of Texas Women's Tennis team was No. 11 in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings of the 2024 season released Wednesday. It marks the seventh consecutive year the Longhorns have finished in the top 12 of the final ITA national poll.
Texas earned a No. 6 ranking in 2018, No. 9 in 2019 and No. 4 in 2020. The Longhorns were tabbed No. 1 in both 2021 and 2022 when they claimed back-to-back NCAA team National Championships, and then were No. 7 last year.
Texas concluded the 2023-24 season with a 23-6 overall record, including a 12-1 mark in Big 12 play, which was second only behind undefeated No. 1 Oklahoma State. The 23 wins give the Longhorns a fourth-straight year with at least that many, while they also reached the NCAA Round of 16 for the fourth-straight year. Texas has now made six trips to the Round of 16 in eight opportunities under head coach Howard Joffe (2016, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024).
Despite being without No. 1 singles and doubles player Sabina Zeynalova for much of the second half of the year, the Longhorns registered wins against both NCAA Championship finalists in No. 9 Texas A&M, which finished No. 1, and No. 4 Georgia, which finished No. 3. They also had victories over No. 12 Ohio State, No. 14 Auburn, No. 15 Oklahoma, No. 18 Oklahoma again in the Big 12 semifinals, and No. 24 Georgia Tech in the NCAA Second Round.
