Men’s Tennis signs international standout Sebastian Eriksson

Sebastian Eriksson, a native of Stockholm, Sweden, who is one of the top juniors players in the world, will join the Longhorns’ roster for the upcoming season.
Austin – University of Texas Men's Tennis has signed international standout Sebastian Eriksson to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) and Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA), head coach Bruce Berque announced Tuesday. Eriksson will join the program for the upcoming season.
"We are very excited to welcome Sebastian to our team," Berque said. "He has proven to be one of the top junior players in the world, and we believe that his game has significant potential for development for the college level and beyond. Sebastian had excellent chemistry with our team on his visit, and I'm confident that he will have a positive impact on our program over the next four years."
"I chose the University of Texas because of the rich tennis history and the great impression I got from the coach and players," Eriksson said. "I know it will be an excellent place to not only improve as a tennis player, but also compete for titles with a great group of teammates."
A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Eriksson is one of the top juniors players in the world with a career high ranking of No. 21, while he is also currently ranked career highs of No. 1246 in singles and No. 1560 in doubles by the ATP.
In juniors, Eriksson played in all four majors in both singles and doubles last year. In singles, he reached the Round of 32 at Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, along with the Round of 64 at the Australian Open. In doubles, he played in the Round of 32 in all of them and advanced to the Round of 16 at Wimbledon. In 2022, he played in both singles and doubles at Roland Garros, making in the Round of 64 and Round of 16, respectively.
Eriksson has won six juniors singles titles in his career, most recently taking the J500 Offenbach in Germany in 2023 after emerging from qualifying and posting eight-straight victories. Additionally, he reached the semifinals of the J500 Orange Bowl International Championships in December. He claimed five titles in 2021, including three straight with the J4 Frederiksberg in Denmark, and the J4 Bromma and J4 Kramfors in Sweden, in which he combined to win 15-straight contests. He also won the J5 Hilversum the Netherlands, and the J5 Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina, during which he also came out of qualifying for eight-straight wins in both tournaments.
In doubles, Eriksson has five more titles with three coming in 2023 and two in 2021. Last year's were the J500 Merida in Mexico, the J300 Bamberg in Germany, and the J200 Valencia in Spain, while two years earlier, he won doubles along with singles at the J4 Frederiksberg, and the J5 Doboj in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
