No. 1/1 Softball’s Atwood earns NFCA All-American status

Reese Atwood becomes Texas’ first NFCA First Team All-American since Taylor Hoagland, Blaire Luna in 2013
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A historic season for Texas sophomore Reese Atwood became even more historic when the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced Atwood as a First Team All-American on Wednesday afternoon.
Atwood is the first NFCA All-American for the Texas softball program since Janae Jefferson and Hailey Dolcini picked up second and third team honors, respectively, for the 2022 season. She's the first NFCA All-American First Team selection since Taylor Hoagland and Blaire Luna earned the honor for their performances throughout the 2013. In total, she's just the sixth different student-athlete in program history to earn NFCA All-American First Team honors since Nikki Cockrell and Christa Williams were the program's first in 1998.
Atwood was one of five unanimous All-American selections, joining Stanford's NiJaree Canady, Florida's Jocelyn Erickson, Baylor's Shaylon Govan and Duke's Claire Davidson. The honor is Atwood's first career NFCA All-American honor.
Each program participating in the Women's College World Series has at least one All-American, while a total of 20 honorees will participate in the event.
The NFCA All-America teams are voted on by the Association's All-America Committees. In Division I, the committee is composed of one elected member head coach from each of the NFCA's 10 regions. All student-athletes who were nominated by their member head coach and voted to the first, second or third-team All-Region teams were eligible for All-America consideration.
