Top-seeded Texas to play winner of eight seed Texas Tech and ninth seed Iowa State on Thursday
IRVING, Texas – Following the end of Sunday's action to conclude the regular season, the Big 12 Conference announced the bracket for the 2024 Phillips 66 Big 12 Softball Championship that will be held at USA Softball Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla., and begin at 5 p.m. CT on Wednesday, May 8.
Texas, as a result of winning the league's regular season championship with a conference-best 23 victories in Big 12 play, will be the tournament's number one seed and will play at 5 p.m. CT on Thursday, May 9. The Longhorns will take on the winner of a matchup between the eighth-seeded Texas Tech and ninth-seeded Iowa State that will be played at 7:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, May 8. A potential win over the Red Raider-Cyclone winner would pair UT against the winner of fourth-seeded Baylor and fifth-seeded UCF, a game that is slated for 7:30 p.m. CT on Thursday, May 9, in the tournament's semifinals.
Not only did Texas claim its first outright Big 12 regular season championship since the 2010 season, but the Longhorns will also be the tournament's first non-Oklahoma number one seed since the league's 2010 postseason tournament.
Entering this season's postseason Big 12 tournament, Texas holds a 9-2 all-time record as the number one seed and has won two postseason conference championships (2002 and 2003) as the top-seeded team.
All games leading up to the championship game will be available to stream on ESPN+, while the tournament's championship game will be broadcast to a nation-wide audience on ESPN2 at 6:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, May 11. The winner of Saturday's game will receive the Big 12's automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Softball Division I Championship Tournament.
