Women's Swimming's Hurst, Sullivan finish fourth-seventh in 1500 free final at U.S. Olympic Trials

Sticklen and Luther advance to the 200 fly final.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — University of Texas incoming freshman Kate Hurst registered a fourth-place finish and rising senior Erica Sullivan placed seventh in the final of the 1500-meter freestyle on Wednesday evening at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming inside Lucas Oil Stadium. In addition, rising senior Emma Sticklen and former Longhorn Dakota Luther advanced to the final of the 200-meter butterfly.
The top finisher in the individual swimming events at the U.S. Olympic Trials earns an automatic spot on the official Team USA roster, while the runner-up is considered a near lock to make the team as well.
Katie Ledecky (15:37.35) and Katie Grimes (15:57.77) finished one-two in the 1500 free final. Hurst took fourth with a mark of 16:09.77, while Sullivan placed seventh in a time of 16:29.88.
During Wednesday evening's 200-meter butterfly semifinals, Sticklen recorded the third-fastest time with a mark of 2:07.44. Luther registered the fourth-fastest time at 2:08.36. The final of the 200 fly will be contested on Thursday night.
In Wednesday morning's prelims, a trio of Longhorns advanced to the semifinals in the 200-meter butterfly. Sticklen posted the fourth-fastest time of the morning session with a mark of 2:08.55, while Luther followed in fifth at 2:08.69 and former Longhorn Kelly Pash finished ninth (2:09.43).
