Austin – Eight members of the Texas Men's Tennis Team were named to the 2023-24 Academic All-Big 12 First Team, the conference announced Tuesday. The eight selections led the conference overall for men's tennis, including combined with its second-team selections.
The Longhorns included seniors Micah Braswell, Cleeve Harper, Evin McDonald, Eliot Spizzirri, Eshan Talluri and Siem Woldeab, junior Pierre-Yves Bailly, and redshirt freshman Lucas Brown.
For Harper, it is the fifth time he has received first-team accolades in his career, doing so each year after redshirting in the 2019 season. Meanwhile, McDonald, Spizzirri and Woldeab are all four-time honorees, Talluri is a three-time selection, Braswell and Bailly have earned the honor twice, and Brown garnered his first. All of those career selections were for the first team.
Earlier this year, Spizzirri and Braswell both were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America First Team, while Spizzirri was named Team Member of the Year for the highest honor. All six seniors also completed their UT degrees this past spring.
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify for the team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher, either cumulative or the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and met all the other criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
