Men's Swimming's Corbeau earns bronze in 200 breast at Paris Olympics

Rising junior Hubert Kos advances to Thursday’s 200 back final as the event’s top seed.
PARIS, France — Former University of Texas star Caspar Corbeau captured the bronze medal in the 200-meter breaststroke final on Wednesday evening at the Paris Olympic Games inside Paris La Defense Arena. In addition, rising junior Hubert Kos qualified for the final of the 200-meter backstroke as the event's top seed.
Texas Men's Swimming has now earned a total of six medals through the first five days of competition at the Paris Games. The trio of rising senior Luke Hobson and former Longhorns Carson Foster and Drew Kibler won silver in the 4x200 free relay on Tuesday. Hobson also claimed bronze in the 200 free on Monday, and Foster won bronze in the 400 IM on Sunday.
During Wednesday night's 200-meter breaststroke final, Corbeau posted a time of 2:07.90 to finish in third place. France's Leon Marchand, who trains with Texas head coach Bob Bowman and also won gold earlier on Wednesday in the 200-meter butterfly, claimed the gold medal with a mark of 2:08.85. Zac Stubblety-Cook of Australia took silver with a time of 2:06.79.
In Wednesday evening's 200-meter backstroke semifinals, Kos recorded the fastest time (1:55.96) to advance to Thursday night's final. Kos transferred to Texas earlier this spring. Roman Mityukov of Switzerland tallied the second-fastest time of the semifinals with a mark of 1:56.05.
During Wednesday morning's prelims, Kos advanced to the 200-meter backstroke semifinals as he posted the fourth-fastest time of the heats with a mark of 1:57.01.
