Women’s Tennis moves into ITA All-Americans qualifying

Two Longhorns advanced from singles prequalifying to join two qualifying selections, while one doubles pair received a bid as an alternate.
Cary, N.C. – Texas Women's Tennis had two players advance from singles prequalifying in the ITA All-American Championships on Sunday in Cary, N.C. Freshmen Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo and Carmen Herea both won two matches to reach the qualifying rounds where they will join qualifying selections junior No. 96 Vivian Ovrootsky and freshman No. 104 Aston Bowers. Anazagasty-Pursoo and Herea also reached qualifying as a doubles pair after receiving a bid as an alternate.
Anazagasty-Pursoo downed Amy Stevens of Vanderbilt, 7-6 (3), 6-0, along with Midori Castillo of Arizona, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (4), and will next play No. 106 Berta Passola Folch (Cal), on Monday at 12:30 p.m. ET/11:30 a.m. CT.
Meanwhile, Herea defeated Alana Boyce of North Carolina, 6-3, 7-6 (3), and Ozlem Uslu of Virginia Tech, 6-3, 7-5, to advance and will face 6 seed No. 66 Florentine Dekkers of LSU on Monday at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT.
Ovrootsky and Bowers had been selected to qualifying entering the tournament. Ovrootsky will open against No. 120 Amelia Bissett of Florida State at 12 p.m. ET/11 a.m. CT, while Bowers will begin with Eva Alvarez Sande of Washington State at 10:30 a.m. ET/9:30 a.m. CT.
Despite falling in the last round of prequalifying on Sunday, the No. 68 pair of Anazagasty-Pursoo and Herea received an alternate bid to the qualifying round and will take on No. 54 Valencia Xu/Valerie Glozman of Stanford at 5 p.m. ET/4 p.m. CT.
