Women’s Tennis advances three in ITA All-Americans qualifying

Three Longhorns picked up singles victories, including junior Vivian Ovrootsky and freshmen Ashton Bowers and Carmen Herea.
Cary, N.C. – Texas Women's Tennis had three players earn first-round qualifying victories in singles in the ITA All-American Championships on Monday in Cary, N.C.
Junior No. 96 Vivian Ovrootsky topped No. 120 Amelia Bissett of Florida State, 6-4, 6-4, freshman No. 104 Ashton Bowers downed Eva Alvarez Sande of Washington State, 6-1, 6-4, and freshman Carmen Herea defeated 6 seed No. 66 Florentine Dekkers of LSU, 6-3, 0-6, 6-2. Freshmen Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo also played in singles but fell to No. 106 Berta Passola Folch of Cal, 6-1, 6-0. She will play in the consolation draw Anazagasty-Pursoo against Zoe Hammond of Kentucky at 9 a.m. ET/8 a.m. CT.
Singles continues on Tuesday when Ovrootsky will face 16 seed No. 83 Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer of UCLA at 11:30 a.m. ET/10:30 a.m. CT, Bowers will take on 2 seed No. 60 Reece Carter of Washington at 12 p.m. ET/11 a.m. CT, and Herea will play No. 113 Maria Juliana Parra Romero of Florida State at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT. Anazagasty-Pursoo will move to the consolation draw against Zoe Hammond of Kentucky at 9 a.m. ET/8 a.m. CT.
The No. 68 doubles duo of Anazagasty-Pursoo and Herea dropped their doubles match to No. 54 Valencia Xu and Valerie Glozman of Stanford, 6-3, 6-3, and will also compete in the consolation draw against a pair to be determined later.
