Women’s Basketball’s Booker named Naismith Trophy Player of the Week

Sophomore guard averaged 22 points per game to help the Longhorns to three wins.
AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas women's basketball sophomore Madison Booker was named the Naismith Trophy Player of the Week, the Naismith Awards announced on Monday.
Booker started the week by scoring 28 points on 13-of-19 shooting to help the Longhorns to an 89-51 win over No. 8 Maryland in the Coretta Scott King Classic. Against Tennessee, Booker had her ninth 20-point game of the season with 26 points and made a key steal and layup to lift Texas to an 80-76 win over No. 17 Tennessee.
This past weekend Booker went home to Mississippi and playing in front of over 30 friends and family she hit the go-ahead jumper for Texas with 25.5 second to go as the Longhorns came out with a 61-58 victory over Ole Miss. Booker again made key defensive plays down the stretch with three blocked shots in the game.
For the week, Booker averaged 22 points per game and shot 51.8 percent from the field. For the season Booker is shooting 49 percent from the field, 43.2 percent from 3-point range and 85.1 percent from the free-throw line.
Up next the Longhorns host Missouri on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 8:00 p.m. CT in Moody Center. That game will be televised on SEC Network.
